Etimologia: o nome da espécie é uma homenagem ao botânico suíço Jacques Samuel Blanchet (1807 – 1875). Entre 1828 e 1856, viveu na Bahia (Brasil), de onde enviou um grande número de espécimes de plantas e algumas amostras zoológicas para naturalistas europeus
