Etimologia: o nome da espécie é uma referência à sua bela aparência, do Latim “elegantissimus“, elegantíssima (=very elegant)
Descrição original:
(Nordsieck, 2005): “Shell with ± attenuated apical part, whorls rounded, suture deep, protoconch blunt, broader than or equally broad as following whorls, after first half whorl rib-striated; yellowish- to greyish reddishbrown; teleoconch whorls provided with widely spaced sharp ribs with fragile white crests, rib crests on the upper whorls low, on the lower ones ± higher, on the neck, especially on the bulges, high, intervals of ribs except for some riblets indistinctly striated; body whorl narrowed, lamina ill-defined, neck with ± strong depression and two bulges, a basal and a subsutural one; aperture descending,
turned outward, oval to piriform, yellowish-brown to yellowish-red inside; superior lamella and spiral lamella missing; inferior lamella high in position, straightly s-like ascending, moderately high or low inwards, in front mostly higher again, lowered on the columellar edge and ending, inner part of inferior lamella separated, running obliquely to the suture, visible as callous patch above rudimentary principal plica;
subcolumellar lamella descending somewhat beyond the lunellar, in front ± strengthened, lower end separated from lunella, in oblique view visible ± far inwards; lunellar dorsolateral in position, principal plica rudimentary, developed as callous patch, connected with or separated from upper palatal plica, in part somewhat elongated in front; upper palatal plica continuous with lunella, lunella oblique, in part weakened, passing into the posterior lower palatal plica, anterior upper palatal plica present, in part reduced, connected with upper palatal plica or upper part of lunella, in perpendicular view visible or not; clausilium plate in oblique view fully visible, in part nearly fully, not extended into the sutural angle, in part leaving a gap at the palatal side, distally pointed and ± bent outwardd”
