Etimologia: o nome da espécie é uma homenagem ao malacologista, paleontólogo e geólogo norte-americano Gurney Dallas Hanna  (1887–1970). Hanna foi curador de geologia e paleontologia da California Academy of Sciences (CAS) por quase 50 anos
