Comentários:
(i) HOLOTYPE depositado no Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales de Madrid, MNCN15.05/200.136, 84.1mm
(ii) Salvador et al. 2026 propõem a transferência para o gênero Kara Strebel, 1910: “Sultana labeo and Sultana liae are far removed from the type species of the genus, S. sultana (Dillwyn, 1817) (which is the sister taxon to Orthalicus). They form a strongly supported clade (PP = 1) with Kara thompsonii (Pfeiffer, 1845), the type species of the genus Kara Strebel, 1910. Thus, these two species are transferred to the genus Kara, resulting in the new combinations Kara labeo (Broderip, 1828) comb. nov. and Kara liae (Vega-Luz, 2021) comb. nov. We also note that Kara labeo comb. nov. is rendered paraphyletic by Kara liae comb. nov., with distant branches, and this matter will require further investigation in the future.”
Descrição original:
(Vega-Luz, 2021): “Shell of medium to large size for the genus, elongated, thick and not umbilicated, colour greenish brown with dark brown spots arranged longitudinally, abundant in the fourth and fifth whorls and with a sinuous contour but scarcer or absent in the last whorl. Well-differentiated protoconch orange-flesh with 3,4 whorls, convex, regularly rounded and has a very distinctive like-mosaic sculpture, formed by many small irregular pits. It has no subsutural cord but if it has a brown suture line.
Growth lines visible in the last four whorls with faint spiral lines hardly visible. Very small, dark dots scarcely and irregularly spread, usually in the last two whorls. The shell has 6,75 convex whorls. The subvertical aperture is ear shaped, mainly porcelain white, sometimes with purple tones. Aperture height reaching about 50% of shell size with a distinctive refracted lip. The thick and rather calloused columella is arranged vertically with regard to the shell axis.”
